Part of a recent revival of indie-emo reminiscent of a time just before The Get Up Kids, Warren Franklin’s pop culture references and unlikely willingness to actually rock out rather than predictably mope sets him apart from his peers on Count Your Lucky Stars. It’s a bit like emo-meets-garage rock, and where many bands in the twinkle-daddy scene tend to get trapped in nostalgia, this EP shows some real ingenuity and promises great things from the band as well as the scene it helps uplift.
